Ah. Winning! Winning is not the gold medal at the end of the race anymore. Winning is work life balance, time spent with family, a decent mode of transport, lower stress levels, healthy relationships with colleagues, good projects, realistic deadlines and so much more! The wonderful balance of all these seem impossible. But what if we could tweak it a bit?
The picture perfect life of a free and responsible man is a dream too far away to achieve. But what are the things that you can do?
Here are a few things that you can implement to have things in your favour:
- Ever watched any of those late night telemarketing TV shows? A few seconds and you are hooked to watching a few minutes of something that you never thought you will need in life. But suddenly, you wonder how you have lived all these years without the amazing cleaning mop or the ab workout machine!
The generation of demand through words, is all it takes. Take the same system and put it to use at your workplace. Start by - Prioritizing your goals will help you make a priority ladder, manage time and meet deadlines. This in turn will help in scheduling Have a meeting that you have to go to? And a report to submit? And a client to meet with? Prioritize what is important first. Work accordingly. This might sound simple but following priorities will help you engage strategically and work efficiently
- Support your opinions and points in a meeting or important discussions by statistics, research or patterns you have noticed over the period. This will make your point twice as persuasive and you will have a better ear over the others present. Backing your points also shows that you have put in extra work to the development of the company.
- Get what you want, done. A simple favour can go a long way. A favour for someone would unconsciously make them feel indebted to you. This can also mean reaching home sooner, getting out of too much work and even weekend work. So the next time someone asks you for a favour, put your heart and soul into it.
- Get more work done. This might sound exhaustive, but go ahead and ask your boss for more work when you are seemingly available. A couple of hours in a week dedicated to doing a bit of extra work will not greatly affect your schedule. Why do this? For one, you are letting the higher authorities know that you are available for responsible work. Two, you are increasing individualistic potential and putting that across. You are able to complete your own work, enthusiastic to do more within deadlines and are dedicated to it. When appraisals, promotions, and raises come up, this is a sure shot way of giving you an edge over the others.
Start implementing these and see the changes that it makes. Of course, everyone has their own style of working and their personality than comes into their work. Do not compromise on that. Keep your identity incorporated with the work you do. As from me, I wish you all the best.
